How does MovieExtras.ie work?
It is an online directory of artists for the Film & TV Industry. Over 800 production companies and casting directors have sought access to the directory so that they can recruit extras, models, presenters or actors.
We also provide a casting service where we cast and book people on behalf of a production company. Currently we provide all the extras and special extras for Fair City.
What is the feedback from current members?
We undertook an online survey with members, 91% of members would recommend the service to their family and friends.
What are my chances of getting work?
Firstly you should note that the work is temproary and casual. It may be a month or two before you get a call or it might be the day after you register. It will really depend on what is happening. In the last quarter, we had 5,000 paid days for our members. Currently we work on a ratio of contacting between 10 to 20 people for every person that we need. Some days we might need a 100 people, other days it could be 20.
Apart from our internal casting service, there are on average 100 logins by 30 or so production companies / casting directors viewing in excess of 6,000 CV's through our unique directory service.
I am under 16, what are my chances of getting work?
There is not as much work for under 16’s as for over 16’s. If you look at any production, you will see that the majority of extras are over 16. Reasons for this include restricted hours, the requirement for a chaperone and not many under 16's are written into scripts. We do not promote directly to under 16's because of this (but we do need a certain level of under 16's to ensure that any requirement can be met).
Will I be guaranteed work?
There is no guarantee of work through MovieExtras.ie. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, we do not know what we need for each production that we work with. For example one production may look for Irish people aged from 50 to 60’s or ethnic people while another production may be looking for 18 to 25 year olds.
Generally the decision is with the production company in who they use, thus there are many times when it is out of our direct control. Secondly, we provide a directory service to any production in Ireland, when a production company uses the directory, they will recruit people directly (similar to the Golden Pages). If you have not got work through the service for a while, drop us an email and we can look into it.
Is MovieExtras.ie solely a site for the recruitment of extras?
No, the site can be accessed by production companies to search for artists with any skills, including presenters, actors, VO and models. We have a good success levels in the area of adverts, and small parts for actors. Previously the new presenter for SKY Sports gold show was recruited through MovieExtras.ie. The show is available throughout Europe to over 200 million subscribers.
